All of the tools listed here; I either love or use on a daily basis! I’ve carefully reviewed each resource and highly recommend them. This list will continue to grow and change over time as I find other valuable tools for you, so check back later!
Personal Finance Tools I Love
LendEDU (FREE!) – LendEDU is a free resource, and a great place to quickly check your refi-rates if you have student loans. Answer 10 quick questions, and compare your rates between 5-6 lenders. Best of all: It doesn’t affect your credit score at all!
Personal Capital (FREE!) – I love Personal Capital. I use it on a daily basis to see my spending, set investment goals, and more importantly to track my net worth. Net worth is everything! I prefer Personal Capital over Mint by a long shot. It’s hands down the best personal finance app I’ve ever used. Best part? It’s completely free.
SoFi (FREE!) – I personally used SoFi to refinance my student loans. They took my ~6.5% rate down to 4.5% so I saved a huge amount of money over the lifetime of the loan. Bonus: They don’t charge a loan origination fee, so the service is truly ‘free’. The application process was simple. Everything was convenient and done online. Customer service was always quick to answer phones and respond to emails. If you’ve never refinanced your student loans before, chances are you can get a lower rate. I highly recommend SoFi to all my readers.
Trim (FREE!) – Trim is an automated financial assistant that helps you lower your monthly expenses. Current features include: lowering your Comcast cable/internet bill automatically. Giving you cash back for Amazon purchases if the price drops. And searching/canceling monthly subscriptions conveniently. In the future, they’ll offer other services like haggling insurance rates for you, etc. I used the service to reduce my expenses, and grab a $10 rebate in 5 minutes. It was quick, convenient, and most importantly – totally free.
Website Tools I Love
Bluehost – Bluehost is my top recommended host, especially for those just starting out. Their monthly plans are incredibly cheap (think $4 a month) and they have 1-click installs for WordPress. You could literally get a website up and running in under 15 minutes. Also, you get a free domain name and email included – can’t beat that!
StudioPress – StudioPress is my top recommended for WordPress themes. Their Genesis framework is used by all the top bloggers for a reason. Recently they also launched managed WordPress hosting services. This site is actually run on a StudioPress theme!
NameCheap – This is my go-to for purchasing domain names. I prefer them over GoDaddy and other registrars because their user interface is much more friendly. Also, in line with their name, their services are very easy on the wallet. I’ve bought domains for as little as $8 during sales.
SEMRush (30 Days Free!) – I love SEMRush! If you are starting a blog, the importance of keyword research can’t be understated. I use SEMRush to get a good gauge for what people are searching for and use that to create strategies to attract more readers to the site! It’s not cheap, but it’s an incredibly valuable tool. The old adage ‘you get what you pay for’ applies here. Luckily, they offer free trials 🙂
Shopify (14 Days Free!) – If you are trying to sell a physical product, you can’t go wrong with Shopify. They are the industry leader for a reason. Shopify makes it incredibly simple to launch an eCommerce site in minutes. I’ve used them in the past and can highly recommend their software and support. They also offer a two-week trial without a credit card if you want to just test the waters.
Random Things I Personally Love
Scribd (30 Days Free!) – That old saying: readers are leaders, exists for a reason! Never ending growth is key to success. I’m a pretty avid reader. In the old days, you’d have to spend tons of money on physical books – but thanks to technology and companies like Scribd, things have gotten way more convenient. It’s the best $9 I spend a month, and they offer hundreds of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks to choose from. I highly recommend them.
Coinbase ($10 Free!) – I personally use Coinbase as my digital wallet. I’m incredibly bullish on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general – but not everyone is, so please do your research. If you decide you like the future of cryptocurrency as well, I highly recommend using Coinbase. I purchase all my crypto to buy and hold through them. They’re based in San Francisco and investments up to $250,000 are completely insured so you can feel safe putting your money on there. BONUS – If you sign up with my link, you can get $10 for free immediately!
FanDuel – I’m an NBA junkie. I’ve been playing regular fantasy sports for over a decade and FanDuel for the past 4 years. Over those 4 years, I’ve made money every NBA season. I consider FanDuel as a profitable side hustle for me. Now, *HUGE* disclaimer, my story is not the average story. Most people who play on daily fantasy sports sites break even or are small losers. So in no way am I telling you to go and bet the house on a game of fantasy football. What I am saying, is that you need to view it for what it is. Daily fantasy sports is a lot like poker. It’s a skill-based GAME that you should play mainly for entertainment. If you are good enough, however – you can make a good chunk of money doing something you enjoy!
RotoQL (FREE Option!) – This is my little secret to winning at FanDuel. RotoQL is a data aggregation service that provides historical performance and projected future performance of fantasy players. They also have an algorithm optimized projection that provides you their ‘best lineup’ scenario for each day. DON’T play FanDuel without using this! I use RotoQL to give me an edge over my competition and win money at daily fantasy sports, plain and simple.
